A care home in Mobberley has taken part in a very special exercise class taught by 1980s fitness star, the Green Goddess.
Residents and team members at Care UK’s Cranford Grange, on Hall Lane, donned their workout wear and green accessories to take part in the bespoke virtual session with fitness guru Diana Moran, which forms part of Care UK’s ‘Let’s Get Physical’ initiative.
Diana, known as the Green Goddess, is best known for hosting 'wake up and shape up' on breakfast television while wearing her trademark green leotard in the 1980s.
As part of their activities, residents at Cranford Grange enjoyed a tailored workout class which included a selection of standing and armchair exercises, that have been designed to improve strength, flexibility, and blood circulation.
The ‘Let’s Get Physical’ initiative sees Care UK homes across the country encourage residents to get active by trying something new and exciting – whether that be a fitness class with the Green Goddess, a seated ballet class, disco yoga or even ice skating.
Lisa Burrows, General Manager at Cranford Grange: “Team members and residents have really enjoyed getting active this January with the help of the Green Goddess.
“We’ve been hard at work digging out our fashionable 80s gear from the back of our wardrobes and going back in time to the era of famous TV workouts – it certainly brought back a few memories!
“Keeping fit is important for everyone, but exercise has many additional benefits for older people, from reducing the risk of falls to increasing wellbeing and confidence. Fun, group activities, like these workouts, can also prompt conversation and encourage new friendships to form between residents.
“We have had a fantastic time getting up and fit with the Green Goddess and are looking forward to continuing these workouts into the rest of the year!”
Diana Moran, the Green Goddess, added: “I am delighted to support Care UK to encourage residents across the country to get active by trying something new.
“Regardless of age, keeping active is what keeps us young. Whether it’s walking a little further on your everyday stroll, or exercising a little longer, every day brings a new possibility. Even for those less mobile, chair-based exercises can be just as beneficial. Nothing should get in the way of you being the best version of you!”
Designed to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence, Cranford Grange, which remains open to potential residents, incorporates space for hobby and leisure activities. The building has been configured into a series of neighbourhoods to help facilitate the creation of close-knit communities and encourage social interaction among the residents.
