A care home team in Hailsham is gearing up to spread some festive cheer this Christmas.
Residents and team members at Care UK’s Bowes House, on Battle Road, are inviting local people to join in with this year’s Doorstep Carols – Britain’s biggest ever carolling sing-along – on Wednesday 15th December at 6pm.
Following on from last year’s success, which saw more than 125,000 people take part, Doorstep Carols aims to inspire the nation to take to their front doors and sing along to well-known carols and Christmas songs in unison. Streets taking part are also encouraged to use the opportunity to raise money for a charity of their choice. This year, Care UK is an official supporter of the initiative, with residents in most of its 126 homes taking part in various ways.
Having practiced their songs and learnt their lyrics, Bowes House is calling for those in the area to also head to their front doors and take part in the festive activity, in unison, at 6pm. The Mayor of Hailsham, Councillor Paul Holbrook, and a local choir will be joining residents and team members at the care home for the festive sing-along. Bowes House will also be serving mulled wine and mince pies on the night and there will also be an opportunity for some Christmas gift shopping at May Bugs pop-up shop.
Ryan Harris, Home Manger at Bowes House, said: “We are so excited to be taking part in Doorstep Carols this year here at Bowes House.
“Residents and team members have spent the last few weeks perfecting their singing ahead of the event, and are looking forward to sharing this years’ festive experience with the mayor and the local choir.
“Singing can be incredibly beneficial, especially for older people, as music and sound is closely linked to memory recall. Not only that, it’s an enjoyable, social activity which helps to create connections with others, as well as tapping into long forgotten memories which can evoke positive emotions.
“Everyone at Bowes House is looking forward to spreading some festive cheer, and we are looking forward to seeing as many local people as possible come out on their own doorsteps to join in!”
