Residents at a Stroud care home got groovy for a special disco event.
Care UK’s Scarlet House, on Westward Road, turned itself into Stroud’s very own Studio 54 as the team hosted a special silent disco.
On the day, the home was adorned with 70s-themed decorations, including party lights and the all-important disco ball, while residents were given headsets to listen to their favourite tunes from the era – and showcase their best moves.
Sharon Morgan, Home Manager at Scarlet House, said: “We are always looking to plan interesting and exciting activities for residents – so with many being young adults in the disco era, we felt hosting a dance party with a twist would be the perfect way to spend a Saturday night in style.
“Music can have many therapeutic benefits for older people, especially those living with dementia, by encouraging them to reminisce or bringing back happy memories from their younger years. Our disco playlist for the day, from Abba and the Bee Gees to Gloria Gaynor and Donna Summer, did just that; it was wonderful to hear so many stories from residents.
“We’ve all loved hosting a silent disco and even learnt a few moves from residents. We’re looking forward to putting our dancing shoes on again soon.”
