An Eye care home has been welcoming some unusual farm friends to meet residents.
Residents at Hartismere Place, on Castleton Way, were thrilled when Pixie and Millie the donkeys trotted into the care home, followed by Poppy, Gordon, Lily and Benny the pygmy goats, where they received plenty of fuss and attention.
As part of the animal therapy sessions, residents learnt about the history and characteristics of donkeys and goats, as well as other interesting facts about the friendly animals.
Marie Reeve, Home Manager at Hartismere Place, said: “We had two wonderful afternoons meeting Pixie, Millie, Poppy, Gordon, Lily and Benny.
“Here at Hartismere Place, we are always looking for new and exciting activities for residents to enjoy. Animal therapy has proven to be incredibly beneficial for older people, as it can offer a calming effect, prompt conversations, and put a smile on everyone’s faces. Pygmy goats and miniature donkeys are incredibly friendly and make great companions, which makes them perfect for care home visits.
“It was so lovely to welcome the four-legged friends into the home, and we look forward to seeing them again very soon!”
Hartismere Place has been designed to deliver the very best standards of care and to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives. The home provides full-time residential, residential dementia, as well as short term respite care.
