Cringleford care home welcomes neigh-bourly visitor

Residents at a care home in Cringleford were thrilled to receive a special visit from a local four-legged celebrity.

Knowing how many animal-lovers there are living at Care UK’s Cavell Court, on Dragonfly Lane, the care home team decided to organise a unique treat in the form of a visit from well-known miniature Shetland pony, Jack Brock.

Jack is owned by Ali Stearn, step-daughter of the former Grand National winner, Bob Champion. Ali’s love of horses has seen her and Jack travel care homes around the country, helping to raise money for Dementia UK, and Jack has become somewhat of a local celebrity as a result.

84-year-old resident, Elizabeth, said: “Jack was so lovely, and so small! I really enjoyed meeting and stroking him.”

Karen Curle, Home Manager at Cavell Court, added: “We always like to go the extra mile for residents here at Cavell Court, and while the last year has been challenging, it’s wonderful to be working with those in the community to organise special activities for residents once again."

Animal therapy can be incredibly beneficial for older people, especially those living with dementia, as it can reduce stress, encourage social interaction, and provide an opportunity to relive happy memories and the associated emotions.

Karen CurleHome Manager

“We have so many animal lovers here at Cavell Court, and many of us have heard about Jack Brock – it really was as exciting as meeting a Hollywood celebrity. I’d like to say a huge thank you to Ali for bringing Jack to visit us, and we look forward to seeing them both again very soon.”

Cavell Court is a modern care home which provides full-time residential, nursing and dementia care, as well as short-term respite care. Designed to enable residents to live enjoyable and fulfilling lives, the care home has its very own cinema and hairdressers, and there is plenty of space both indoors and out for relaxation and recreation.
