Bury St Edmunds care home wins coveted national award

A care home in Bury St Edmunds is celebrating after taking home gold in the Care Home Awards 2021. 

Care UK’s Davers Court, on Shakers Lane, took first place for the ‘Best Individual Care Home’ category, which recognises individual homes across the country for the exceptional quality of their services.

 

The Care Home Awards acknowledge and reward excellence and innovation in UK care home management, operation, and delivery. 

The team at Davers Court, rated ‘Outstanding’ in all five areas by the Care Quality Commission, has been recognised for their person-centred approach and commitment to going above and beyond to provide residential, respite and dementia care. 

Judges noted that exceptional care is the norm at Davers Court and highlighted the team’s commitment to providing high levels of communication with relatives throughout the pandemic, leading the home to be one of the first in the country to create a COVID-safe visiting suite. 

The judges also highlighted the impressive level of input residents have into life at the care home, from helping to recruit new team members, to choosing and adopting a dog. Team members empower residents to make these choices, and pre-admission assessments ensure care plans are created that enable residents to maintain their independence as much as possible. One resident, who previously enjoyed walking to the shops, now walks the home’s dog with the support of the team. 

Dedicated to fulfilling lives, Davers Court has a lifestyle team focused on resident activities, which has seen the creation of a residents’ choir, in addition to visits from local schoolchildren and therapy animals prior to the pandemic. 

Relatives have also shared comments about their experiences of the home, with one family member saying: “It is so appreciated that throughout the time my mother has been at Davers Court, her care has been so wonderful and now, with the added pressure and complications you have to take into account, we as a family can relax in the knowledge that she continues to be looked after with such consideration for her wellbeing.”
