Taking the sea-nic route! Care home residents enjoy local beauty spots

Residents at a Whitstable care home enjoyed the lifting of pandemic restrictions with a week of wishes which saw them visit their favourite places – including their favourite local!

With pandemic restrictions lifting and the sunshine making a brief return, residents from Care UK’s Harrier Lodge, on Thanet Way, set sail to local beauty spots. Throughout the week, residents visited Ramsgate Harbour, Canterbury Garden Centre, enjoyed a picnic at Tankerton beach, before ending the week at their favourite pub, the Long Reach in Whitstable.

Commenting on the day, resident Ruth said: “I used to bring my children here for a day out when they were younger. We would often come here as a family and enjoy fish and chips on the beach and a look around the harbour”.

Diane Collins, Home Manager at Harrier Lodge, said: “With pandemic restrictions now eased, we were delighted to treat residents to a long overdue visit to some of their favorite beauty spots – including a much loved local! With the sunshine making a very brief return, we knew we had to make the most of the final days of summer before the colder months settle in."

“For residents, a pub visit is associated with a lot of happy memories from their younger years, from going out with friends, to pub quizzes and family Sunday lunches. It was lovely to see the residents enjoying time outside of the home, socialising and enjoying the harbour as we all continue to take positive steps forward in life returning to normal."

We look forward to planning more trips for the residents very soon.
