Sherwood Grange’s Lifestyle Coordinator is a finalist in the NAPA Activity Awards

Kimberley Atkin, who heads up the Lifestyle team at Sherwood Grange care home in Kingston Vale, is celebrating reaching the finals of the NAPA Member Activity Awards 2021. 

Kimberley's entry in the Arts in Care Homes Category highlights how she consistently goes above and beyond to plan and organise unusual creative projects for residents to get involved in, whatever their capabilities.

 

In the last 18 months, residents have entered (and often won) a wide range of art, poetry and short story competitions and created artworks that were auctioned to raise money for an NHS charity. This summer, residents even entered the Royal Academy of Art's Summer Exhibition. 

In normal times, Kimberley supports residents to visit exhibitions and artistic workshops. Prior to the pandemic, residents had a day trip to northern France to do some landscape painting, and the home even hosted a life drawing class. Possibly a first for any care setting!

Kimberley gets to know each resident well, including their life experiences and interests, and ensures that activities are tailored to residents' abilities. Every activity she organises, whether arts and crafts, story and poetry writing, or related to music and performing arts, is exciting, unusual and embraces the diverse lives that residents have enjoyed. 

NAPA, the National Activity Providers' Association, provides activity teams in care settings with resources and training to enable the people they support to enjoy an active and enriching life. Its annual awards are the only care sector accolades solely dedicated to showcasing the best in activities in care settings. 

For her creativity, enthusiasm and inclusive approach, we believe Kimberley more than deserves this excellent result. We now have to wait until the NAPA virtual awards ceremony at the beginning of October to find out whether she’s won. Good luck Kimberley!
