A care home in Godalming is rewarding worthy members of the community with a tasty initiative.
Care UK’s Jubilee House, on Pound Lane, has been creating afternoon tea parcels for those in the community who need a treat the most.
The parcels, put together by Paul Boyce, the home’s Customer Relations Manager, and the care home’s Head Chef, Michol Szulinski, contain everything needed for a classic British afternoon tea, including finger sandwiches, scones, cupcakes and tea.
The parcels have been delivered weekly to those nominated by their neighbours for the special surprise. One lucky receiver was Carol Jacobs, who was nominated by the Tapestry Lunch Club. Despite having to shield on her own for the last year, Carol continued to contribute to the online lunch club events. Throughout the pandemic, Carol has continued to support and help others in her community with her usual upbeat and positive personality.
Malgo Wcislo, Home Manager at Jubilee House, said: “The last eighteen months have highlighted the community spirit that has always been at the heart of Godalming. We wanted to acknowledge the small acts of kindness of those within our community who have continued to make a huge difference to those in need.
“There’s nothing like a tasty afternoon tea in the garden on a summer’s day, and our extremely talented chef, Michol, certainly knows how to make the perfect cakes.
“It’s been lovely to read all the fantastic nominations we received, and we’re pleased we were able to put a smile on our fellow community members’ faces. We look forward to repeating this success later in the year.
“We hope everyone who received a parcel enjoyed their afternoon tea, and we’re looking forward to being able to welcome everyone back into the home for a tea and a chat once restrictions allow.”
