Pupils at a local primary school were thrilled to receive activity packs created by residents at a Mildenhall care home.
Residents and team members at Care UK’s Mildenhall Lodge, on St John’s Close, surprised children at West Row Primary School with nature themed activity packs and outdoor play equipment to encourage children to spend more time outside.
Friendships began to blossom between residents and pupils when the children began to write letters to those living at the home, and residents were keen to let West Row Primary School know just how much they valued their new found friendship.
Noby Chelathadathil Jacob, Home Manager at Mildenhall Lodge, said: “Prior to the pandemic, the children from West Row Primary School often visited us at the home, and although we are unable to see them in person at the moment, we wanted to send them a special treat to let them know we are thinking of them.
“Here at Mildenhall Lodge, we are always looking for ways to connect with the community, and intergenerational relationships are fantastic way to do just that. They have many benefits for both sides, as they provide an opportunity for younger and older generations to learn from each other, while also offering older people an increased sense of purpose, and a chance to reminisce.
“It’s wonderful to see such a blossoming friendship between our home and the school, and we look forward to meeting up in person as soon as we are able!”
