Worcester care home shortlisted in national awards

A care home in Worcester is celebrating after being named as a finalist for a national award.

Care UK’s Perry Manor, on Charles Hastings Way, has been shortlisted in the ‘Best for Training and Development’ category at the Care Home Awards.

Worcester care home shortlisted in national awardsThe Care Home Awards recognise and reward excellence and innovation in UK care home management, operation and delivery. The winners will be announced at the annual awards ceremony in September.

Upon joining the Perry Manor team, everyone receives a tailored induction and gets an opportunity to shadow more experienced individuals across all teams. The senior team is involved every step of the way too; for example, Katherine, the Home Manager, runs training sessions covering practical caring and oral hygiene, while Andie, the Deputy Manager, hosts monthly practice nursing groups.

The team at Perry Manor is also involved in several pioneering initiatives, such as the Alzheimer’s Society’s ‘Singing for the Brain’ programme. Tiffany, the home’s Lifestyle Lead, became the first care home team member in the country to be trained to deliver the interactive session, which aims to bring people together through music and singing. The home also has a bespoke LGBTQ+ training programme, which Katherine created in order to offer local older people who identify as LGBTQ+ a safe, fully inclusive space.

Promoting a wider understanding of dementia is also one of Perry Manor’s missions. The home’s Customer Relation Manager, Jimi Wright, regularly delivers Dementia Friends sessions to the wider community, and Donna, the home’s Clinical Lead, also runs online sessions for relatives and external healthcare professionals.

Katherine Matthews, Home Manager at Perry Manor, said: “We are delighted to have made it to the finals in the ‘Best for Training and Development’ category at the Care Home Awards.

“The more training our team has, the better the care they provide. The more skilled we are, the more we’re able to face new challenges. It’s important that each colleague has the opportunity to be involved in areas of care that they’re passionate about.

“We’re proud to be seen as a source of expertise, not only locally but also on a broader scale, within the Care UK and healthcare community. It’s important for us to try and give back as much as we can by helping to create more dementia-friendly communities to support older people, and both Jimi and Donna are brilliant at delivering engaging, informative sessions.

“I’m incredibly proud of our team and everything they do to ensure Perry Manor is a fantastic place to call home. We’re keeping our fingers crossed for a win later this year!”

The winners will be announced at the annual awards ceremony taking place on 10th September 2021.
