A care home in Halstead was delighted to welcome a special guest for a virtual read-along.
Residents at Care UK’s Colne View, on Dame Mary Walk, were thrilled to be joined by local author, Paul Joynson, for a reading of his book, The Mingoes and their Amazing Adventures.
A collection of funny poems and illustrations, Paul was inspired to write the book for his granddaughter, who was only interested in the Mr Men books. After releasing his story on a small scale, Paul decided to publish his work more widely in memory of his son, Olly, who passed away in August 2020 aged 42 from motor neurone disease.
With all proceeds from the book going to the Motor Neurone Disease Association, residents at Colne View were keen to support Paul’s efforts, and were delighted when he joined them for a virtual read-along, to test out some of his new material.
Razvan Stanbeca, Home Manager at Colne View, said: “Here at Colne View, we strive to support members of our local community, which is why we were so keen to get involved with Paul’s fantastic initiative.
“We had a wonderful time listening to a live reading of The Mingoes, and were honoured to be chosen to listen to some of Paul’s new material too! We’ll certainly be getting our hands on a copy as soon as the next book is released.”
