Love is in the air at a Bracknell care home

Residents at a local care home have been swept off their feet celebrating Valentine’s Day this year.

The team at Care UK’s Bickerton House, on Warfield Road, have organised a variety of activities, including making Valentine’s Day cards for loved ones, enjoying a special Valentine’s menu and hosting a mocktail tasting session with a ‘love potion’.

The home team also organised decorations throughout the home, including a striking balloon wall in the dining room for residents to enjoy. The wall, which featured a neon love sign, proved a hit with the residents, who enjoyed taking photos in front of the eye-catching display.

The team also led reminiscence activities around the theme of love and marriage, which encouraged residents to share their stories. The residents enjoyed chatting about everything from first loves through to decades of happy marriage.

Erika Smith, Home Manager at Bickerton House, said: “Here at Bickerton House, we encourage residents to live active and fulfilling lives. We have a full programme of activities throughout the year, and our Valentine’s Day activities got everyone into the spirit of the occasion!

“The mocktail-tasting session was a particular favourite and the balloon wall looked incredible and really set the scene for the special Valentine’s Day menu that residents enjoyed. The activities provided a great opportunity for reminiscence about love, and it was a pleasure to hear the residents’ stories from their pasts.”

The purpose-built care home has been designed to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence. The home provides full-time residential, nursing and specialist dementia care, and incorporates space for hobby and leisure activities, including its own cinema, hair salon and café.
