Team members and residents at a Smyth Lodge in Sidcup care home have been celebrating after they became one of the first homes in the area to receive Covid-19 vaccinations for almost everyone living and working in the home.
With the support of Dr Sid Deshmukh from Sidcup Medical Centre, the vast majority of residents at Care UK’s Smyth Lodge, on Frognal Avenue, were given the first dose of the vaccination.
One of the first in the queue for the vaccination was 82-year-old Elizabeth Papworth, who said: “How wonderful, thank you NHS and all medical staff for this day.”
Tracey Cheeseman, Home Manager at Smyth Lodge, said: “We’re delighted to announce that residents at Smyth Lodge have had their first dose of vaccine. Although there is a little way to go yet, we are pleased to have taken a step towards returning to normality again soon.
“We’re grateful to the NHS team at Sidcup Medical Centre, who were incredibly caring and made sure that the whole process went as smoothly as possible.”
Care UK is keen to stress that the vaccine doesn’t provide full protection against the virus so its teams will continue to follow their stringent infection control measures including regular deep cleaning, regular testing, the use of masks and other PPE, social distancing, air purifiers and temperature checks to keep everyone safe.
Smyth Lodge has been designed to deliver the very best standards of care and to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives. The home provides full-time residential dementia and nursing care, as well as respite care.
