Residents at a Horndean care home have received a special delivery from local pupils.
Care UK’s Pear Tree Court, on Portsmouth Road, received over 30 colourful Christmas cards, all handmade by pupils at Mayville High School and Portsmouth Grammar Junior School to celebrate the festive season. The cards included drawings of snowmen and Christmas trees, as well as messages and festive greetings to residents.
The home has an ongoing relationship with the Portsmouth Grammar Junior School who recently created over 150 drawings for the home’s ‘Hug a Care Home’ project.
Everyone is now keen to continue to build on a relationship with the local pupils, and work together on more initiatives in the future.
Niki Richards, Manager at Pear Tree Court, said: “We’re feeling really festive here at Pear Tree Court, and receiving these Christmas cards was a wonderful surprise for residents.
“Intergenerational relationships have proven to be enriching for both young and older people, as they provide an opportunity for the different generations to learn from each other.
“This is no doubt that there is a beautiful friendship between our home and pupils at Portsmouth Grammar Junior School and Mayville High School – we’re looking forward to working together again in the future.”
