A local care home is hosting a free, virtual Parkinson’s awareness event.
On Thursday 17th December, from 2pm-3pm, the people of Bracknell will have the opportunity to find out more about Parkinson’s and the support available for families affected by the condition.
The team at Care UK’s Bickerton House, on Warfield Road, are joining forces with Mr Adby, from Parkinson’s UK Reading, to offer helpful guidance and practical tips for improving the everyday lives of those affected by Parkinson’s. He will also signpost attendees to further information from local support groups and specialist Parkinson’s services in Bracknell and the surrounding areas.
There will also be a question and answer session to give everyone the opportunity to raise individual concerns and share experiences.
Erika Smith, Home Manager at Bickerton House, said: “According to Parkinson’s UK, two people in the UK are diagnosed with Parkinson's disease every hour, and more than 145,000 people were diagnosed with the condition last year. Most people diagnosed are over the age of 50, and one in every 500 will develop the condition in later life.
“Across Care UK, we care for a number of residents living with Parkinson’s and we have seen first-hand how the experiences of individuals and their families can be transformed simply by having access to the right information and support.
“Here at Bickerton House, we are looking forward to supporting the community and we are sure that those who are able to attend our virtual event will benefit from the specialist knowledge and expert advice on offer.”
For anyone unsure about how to take part in the virtual event, help is at hand. The team at Bickerton House will host the event using Zoom, an online meeting space. Simply call or email Customer Relations Manager, Tracey Van Zyl, and she will send a link to join the event and share her tips to make the most out of the session.
The purpose-built care home has been designed to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence. The home provides full-time residential, nursing and specialist dementia care, and incorporates space for hobby and leisure activities, including its own cinema, hair salon and café.
