Chester care home rewards local heroes

A care home in Chester has rewarded a local charity for going above and beyond.

Care UK’s Deewater Grange, on Chester Road, crowned the Neuro Therapy Centre as the winner of the home’s local heroes competition.

Chester care home rewards local heroesThe Neuro Therapy Centre is a charity which offers free practical support and therapy to those affected by a range of neurological conditions, including multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, motor neurone disease and myalgic encephalomyelitis, also known as chronic fatigue syndrome. The centre normally assists up to 250 people every week, providing expert advice in a positive environment, while giving access to a range of facilities, from a hyperbaric oxygen chamber to an adapted gym.

Launched earlier this year to celebrate the home’s opening, the local heroes competition invited the people of Chester to nominate those in the community who work hard to make a difference. The centre received a £500 prize, which will enable them to continue supporting their members over the phone and via virtual classes throughout lockdown.

Jane Johnston-Cree, Centre Director at Neuro Therapy Centre, said: “We were thrilled to find out we’d won Deewater Grange’s local heroes competition. This has been a challenging year for charities across the board, and the prize donation will go a long way towards helping us to continue supporting those in community who need our services the most. On behalf of everyone at the Neuro Therapy Centre, I would like to thank the team at the home and Care UK for their generosity.”

Sally Cooper, Home Manager at Deewater Grange, added: “With our local heroes competition, we really wanted to shine a light on those individuals and groups within our community that truly go above and beyond for others.

“We found exactly that in the Neuro Therapy Centre – they provide vital services to community members dealing with a range of neurological conditions for free, and have been doing their best to continue supporting them throughout lockdown despite the restrictions in place.

“We’re delighted to be able to help them to continue serving the Chester community, and we look forward to seeing how we can build on this relationship in the future.”
