A care home in Sutton Coldfield is helping to create a dementia-friendly community.
On Thursday 12th November, from 6.30pm-7.30pm, local people are invited to attend a virtual Dementia Friends event hosted by Care UK’s Mercia Grange care home, on Lichfield Road.
The Alzheimer’s Society’s Dementia Friends programme is an initiative to change people’s perceptions of dementia, raising awareness and understanding of the condition. It aims to transform the way the nation thinks, acts and talks about dementia.
Mercia Grange’s Customer Relations Manager and Dementia Champion Rachel Mackay will be covering a number of topics to help people understand what it is like to live with dementia. There will also be support and practical advice on what dementia is and how memories are lost, as well as useful tips on how to overcome communication barriers and discover positive approaches to living with dementia.
There will also be advice for those attending about the small things they can do to make a difference to people living with dementia in the community.
Thomas Bampfield, Home Manager at Mercia Grange, said: “At Mercia Grange we are committed to encouraging others to learn about dementia, and we are really proud of the progress we have made by supporting the Dementia Friends initiative. We want to educate people, but also help the community turn their knowledge into action by making our community more aware of those living with dementia.
“We look forward to hosting this virtual event. These sessions have proven incredibly popular in the past, so booking a place is essential.”
