Kidderminster resident celebrates birthday in style

A local care home resident has celebrated a milestone birthday.

Birthday celebrations were in full swing at Care UK’s Brook Court, on Oldnall Road, when resident John Paul, known to friends and family as JP, turned 50 years old on 12 October.

Kidderminster resident celebrates birthday in styleA huge music fan, JP’s party was 1980s themed, and he was joined by his friends and team members at the care home for a special socially-distanced celebration. Colleagues dressed up especially for the occasion and decorated the dining room with home-made bunting and posters. Songs from the era of rock were played and team members even performed a special rendition of his favourite song, Take On Me, by A-ha.

Everyone toasted JP’s special day and enjoyed a slice of home-made birthday cake, in the shape of a record, specially made by the head chef and his team.

Gill Pratt, home manager at Brook Court, said: “JP is a huge character here at Brook Court, having moved in nearly six years ago. It’s fantastic to see him celebrating this milestone with his friends here at the care home.

“JP’s passion is music, having been in a band when he was younger and playing the keyboard, and we wanted to ensure this was reflected in his celebrations. All our music knowledge has grown since JP moved in, with regular games of ‘Who sang...?’ to keep us on our toes.Kidderminster resident celebrates birthday in style

“Residents are at the heart of everything we do here at Brook Court, and we always like to throw a party for special celebrations. Despite the challenges we have all faced this year, we wanted to ensure JP had a very special day. It was wonderful to raise a glass in his honour – happy birthday JP!”
