A resident at a care home in Epsom had a very special visit to mark her milestone birthday.
Birthday celebrations were in full swing at Care UK’s Appleby House, on Longmead Road, when resident Betty Joscelyne turned 103 years ‘young’ on 11th October. To mark the occasion, Betty received a very special visit from the local fire department, who drove their fire engine up to the front of the care home to greet Betty from a distance and flash their lights.
Betty was born on 11th October 1917, the youngest of four siblings – her two brothers, Claude and Arthur, and her sister Clara – grew up together in Epsom, Surrey. She has stayed in Epsom her entire life, where she met and married her husband, Frank, in 1939 enjoying a long and happy marriage before Frank sadly passed away ten years ago.
Shona Bradbury, Home Manager at Appleby House, said: “Betty is a well-loved resident at Appleby House, and it was fantastic to help her celebrate this incredible milestone with her friends here at the care home. She is a very happy, sociable person, and enjoys chatting with the team members and other residents, often making us all laugh.
“Residents are at the heart of everything we do here at Appleby House, and we always like to make any celebration special, and Betty’s 103rd birthday was no exception. We’d like to thank the firemen who visited Betty on her birthday for making her day!”
Appleby House has been designed to provide residential, nursing and specialist dementia care, as well as respite, and end of life care.
