A care home in Edinburgh has praised a team member for her dedication, hard work and passion throughout the coronavirus pandemic.
Eilidh Murdoch, senior carer at Care UK’s Lauder Lodge, on Wakefield Avenue, has been named a ‘Care UK Hero’ for going above and beyond for colleagues and residents in recent months.
The nomination was shared as part of a nationwide search for Care UK Heroes throughout its 122 care homes. From outstanding colleagues, to residents who have ensured morale remains high, this competition aims to shine a light on these exceptional people.
Eilidh impressed fellow team members and families for her outstanding care, gentle manner and positive attitude. She was described as their ‘eyes and ears’ by a family while they weren’t able to visit their father, and made sure his phone would be charged at all times so he could keep in touch with his children. She also visited the home on her days off to check on the residents in her care so they could continue seeing a familiar face.
Eilidh said: “I’m so thrilled to have been chosen as a Care UK Hero! I’m incredibly proud of the environment we have created here at Lauder Lodge, and although challenging, the past few months have reinforced just how important the service we provide is for residents and their families. I couldn’t be more proud to be part of such a fantastic team.”
Trudy Mcpherson, a resident’s relative, added: “Eilidh has given care above and beyond the call of duty at this very difficult time for us, and I have no doubt she helped Dad rally to get over a very tough spell. She is thoughtful, gentle and kind. She has most definitely found her vocation with her cheery and positive disposition. She is very special person and I feel happy that we can trust her with Dad's care fully.”
Nicole Anderson, home manager at Lauder Lodge, added: “Eilidh is an incredibly dedicated team member, and she always goes above and beyond for residents, making sure they had regular contact with their loved ones throughout the pandemic, sometimes even giving up her days off to check in with them.
“Eilidh always strives to make a difference in residents’ lives through small gestures, whether that be by making sure their phones are always charged or making sure they always look their very best. We’re incredibly proud to have her in our team – she’s a true asset to Lauder Lodge.
“From our nurses and lifestyle coordinators, to our housekeepers and chefs, everyone has done a tremendous job over the past few months, and I cannot thank Eilidh and the rest of the team enough for their hard work and for continuing to make Lauder Lodge a wonderful place to live.”
