Local school children have created eye-catching artwork to decorate the hoardings of Basingstoke’s newest care home.
Students from Hatch Warren Junior School were invited by Care UK to get creative with a piece of artwork around the theme of ‘who do you care about?’ The artwork is now on display on the hoardings surrounding Dashwood Manor, on Shortwoodcopse Lane, as the care home begins to take shape.
The multi-million-pound, purpose-built care home, which will provide full-time residential, nursing and specialist dementia care for up to 70 older people in Basingstoke, is due to open in October 2021.
Peter Griffiths, development project manager for Care UK, said: “We were delighted to be able to collaborate with Hatch Warren Junior School on a lovely art project to brighten up our hoardings.
“It was great to welcome the children’s teacher, Josie, to see their pictures proudly displayed and we look forward to working with the school on future projects.”
osie McKeever, Year three teacher at Hatch Warren Junior School, said: "We were excited when Care UK asked us to get creative for their new Basingstoke care home. The children had a great time creating the artwork and are thrilled that it is now displayed for all the community to see.
"We are keen to build on this new relationship with Dashwood Manor, and we look forward to visiting the home once the first residents have moved in next year.”
Designed to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence, the new care home will incorporate space for hobby and leisure activities. The layout of the building will be configured into a series of individual suites, each having a dedicated lounge/dining room to help facilitate the creation of close knit communities.
