Newbury care home thanks local community for their support

Newbury care home thanks local community for their supportA care home in Newbury has thanked those who have gone the extra mile to support residents throughout the coronavirus pandemic, from members of the community to its dedicated team.

Care UK’s Winchcombe Place, on Maple Crescent, has expressed its gratitude for the consideration and generosity shown by the people of Newbury over the past couple of months.

From volunteering, to delivering messages and artwork to brighten everyone’s day, individuals and organisations have pulled together to support the older members of the community, and Care UK homes across the country have been overwhelmed by the kind gestures of local people.

Winchcombe Place has been inundated with support, receiving creative artwork and letters from pupils at Tiger Day Nursery, The Castle School and the 3rd Newbury Scout Group, and a delivery of flowers for residents from Donnington Valley Hotel. Tasty treats have also been provided by local Waitrose and Nando’s branches, and cakes from Team Bakers, in addition to magnifying glasses and screen enlargers for residents from Vision Express.

Friend of Winchcombe Place, Sophie Louise Johnson, also provided entertainment for everyone by calling on her talented musical theatre friends to compile a video of songs which were dedicated to those at the care home. The home will also be loaned an outdoor cinema from Project Audio Visual, which will allow residents to watch video messages from friends and family on a big screen, as well as enjoy a special showing of resident favourite, The Greatest Showman, in late July.

Whether it’s baking for a resident’s birthday, keeping the morale up through creative activities or pampering sessions, team members at Winchcombe Place have also been praised for their unwavering dedication and relentless efforts over the past few months.

Kerry Thompson, home manager at Winchcombe Place, said: “Everyone at Winchcombe Place is incredibly grateful for the kindness shown by the Newbury community.

“From the outdoor cinema, to musical video and special letters and drawings from those in the community, we are truly thankful for your support.

“The team and residents at Winchcombe Place are looking forward to thanking everyone in person for their gestures of goodwill when we are able to safely open our doors to the community once again.”

Winchcombe Place is a state-of-the-art care home which provides full-time residential, nursing, dementia and short-term respite care. The care home incorporates space for hobby and leisure activities and includes its own cinema, hair salon and café.
