Hailsham care home residents set their eyes on the skies

Hailsham care home residents set their eyes on the skiesResidents at a care home in Hailsham celebrated Britain’s best birds as part of the world’s largest garden wildlife survey – and it was a flying success!

This year’s RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch saw residents at Care UK’s Bowes House, on Battle Road, celebrating the best of British birds with some exciting avian-themed activities.

As part of the celebrations, residents were joined by Kim Parkes, a local wildlife expert, for a special birdwatching session, where residents also had the opportunity to find out more about the species of birds that live around the home.

The theme continued throughout the day with a host of other bird-related activities, including baking edible nests, bird bingo, and a fun wildlife quiz.

Helena Barrow, home manager at Bowes House, said: “Residents love taking part in nature-themed activities here at Bowes House, and we had a lot of fun celebrating this year’s bird-themed event.

“It was a pleasure to welcome Kim Parkes to the home again this year – his expertise really took our birdwatching session to new heights, and the residents were thrilled to find out more about the species that live in our garden.

“Connecting with nature is extremely beneficial for older people, especially those living with dementia, as it promotes positive social interaction, improves wellbeing and provides an opportunity for sensory stimulation, which can conjure happy memories and the associated emotions.

“I’d like to say thank you to Kim for joining us and making the day so special.”
