Dorset care home explores heart health with free advice event

A care home in Ferndown is inviting the local community to a free event to learn more about heart health and leading a healthy lifestyle.

On Thursday 13th February, from 2pm-4pm, the Care UK team at Ferndown Manor, on Golf Links Road, will open its doors for the ‘Heart health and healthy lifestyles’ event.

A team of experts in heart health from Bournemouth University will be covering a number of topics to help raise awareness of heart disease, as well as offering advice and tips on what you can do to prevent the condition, spot the signs and symptoms, and learn about what support is available if someone you love is diagnosed with heart disease.

After the event there will be a Q&A session, refreshments and an opportunity to meet the friendly team at Ferndown Manor, as well as take a closer look at the care home.

Home manager at Ferndown Manor, Zita Turner, said: “Sharing professional knowledge, insight and experiences can make a real difference to those of us who are worried about our own or a loved one’s health. It’s the first time we’ve hosted an event on this subject, but we feel it’s important to understand what heart disease is and the signs and symptoms to be aware of.

“We’re delighted to welcome the team of experts in heart health from Bournemouth University to help us better understand the disease. It is estimated that 7.4 million people in the UK are currently living with heart or circulatory disease*, so it’s important that we raise awareness of this growing medical problem, and we look forward to welcoming the community to find out more.”

Ferndown Manor, which features 75 ensuite bedrooms, is a state-of-the-art home which provides full-time residential, dementia and nursing care, as well as short-term respite care. Designed to enable residents to live enjoyable and fulfilling lives, the care home has its very own cinema, hairdressing salon and café, and there is plenty of space, both indoors and out, for relaxation and recreation.
