Residents at a care home in Cringleford celebrated Britain’s best birds as part of the world’s largest garden wildlife survey – and it was a flying success!
This year’s RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch saw residents at Care UK’s Cavell Court, on Dragonfly Lane, celebrate the best of British birds with some exciting avian-themed activities.
As part of the celebrations, residents were joined by pupils from Cringleford Primary School for a morning of bird-related activities, including a reciprocal reading activity where pupils taught residents more about British birds.
Team members and residents also created their own edible bird nests, as well as being visited by Fritton Owl Santuary. Residents had the opportunity to get up close to the impressive creatures and learn more about them in a ‘show and tell’ session.
Karen Curle, home manager at Cavell Court, said: “Residents love taking part in nature-themed activities here at Cavell Court, and we had a lot of fun celebrating this year’s Birdwatch event.
“It was fantastic to be joined by pupils from Cringleford Primary School for a reciprocal reading session. Intergenerational activities can be extremely beneficial for older people, as it promotes positive social interaction, improves wellbeing and also offers both generations a chance to learn from each other. Having the owls visit the home was the perfect way to complete our avian-themed celebrations.
“We’d like to thank Cringleford Primary School for coming along, we are looking forward to welcoming them back to Cavell Court very soon!”
