Bury St Edmunds care home makes the finals in national awards

A care home in Bury St Edmunds is celebrating after being shortlisted in this year’s Caring UK Awards.

Care UK’s Glastonbury Court, on Glastonbury Road, has made it to the final stage in the ‘End of Life Team of the Year’ category in the national awards, which recognise those delivering quality care services across the UK.

The care team at Glastonbury Court have been recognised for their commitment to providing compassionate end of life care for both residents and their families.

Working sensitively with residents and relatives, detailed end of life plans are put together by the team, allowing each person to make their own decisions about both their general needs, as well as wishes for their final days.

The home has also created a suite for relatives to use, and also provides a portable bed to allow them to sleep in their loved one’s room. Glastonbury Court continues to offer an open door even after loved ones have passed to support relatives through the grieving process

Memory books are created for the family, including photographs of their loved one’s time living in Glastonbury Court, as well as messages from residents and team members. Families are also invited to hold the wake at the home.

Sharlene Van Tonder, home manager at Glastonbury Court, commented: “We are delighted to have been shortlisted as ‘End of Life Team of the Year’ category in this year’s Caring UK Awards.

“When someone is approaching the end of their life, they often want to spend their final days in the place they call home. If that is our care home, then we want to ensure we are doing everything in our power to ensure residents and their families have peace of mind that the best possible care will be provided.

Glastonbury Court is a modern care home which provides full-time residential, nursing and dementia care, as well as short-term respite care.
