A picture paints a thousand birds at Bromsgrove care homeResidents at a care home in Bromsgrove celebrated Britain’s best birds as part of the world’s largest garden wildlife survey – and it was a flying success!

This year’s RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch saw residents at Care UK’s Chandler Court, on Recreation Road, celebrate the best of British birds with some exciting avian-themed activities.

As part of the celebrations, residents were joined by Castle Nursery for a morning of wildlife games, including bird lotto, and colouring in their favourite feathered friends.

Team members and residents also recorded the number of birds and other wildlife species that they saw on a special visit to Upton Warren Nature Reserve – data which will be used by the RSPB to monitor trends and understand how different species are doing.

Everyone had fun learning about British wildlife together and playing games.

“Our visit to Upton Warren Nature Reserve was enjoyed by everyone. Connecting with wildlife is extremely beneficial for older people, especially those living with dementia. Nature-themed activities promote positive social interaction, improve wellbeing and provides an opportunity for sensory stimulation, as well as conjuring happy memories and the associated emotions.

“I’d like to say thank you to Castle Nursery for joining us and making the day so special, we can’t wait to welcome the children back soon for some more fun activities.”
