Stroud care home residents take birdwatch weekend to the ‘nest level’

Residents at a care home in Stroud celebrated Britain’s best birds as part of the world’s largest garden wildlife survey – and it was a flying success!

This year’s RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch inspired activities that took place over the weekend and residents at Care UK’s Scarlet House, on Westward Road, celebrated the best of British birds with some exciting avian-themed activities.

As part of the celebrations, residents enjoyed making bird boxes for their garden, played bird bingo, took part in birdwatching and were excited to welcome Walks with Hawks, which brought in birds of prey, including a hawk and a barn owl.

Residents enjoyed getting up close with the impressive creatures, and took part in a ‘show and tell’ to learn more about the birds.

Kate Stevens, home manager at Scarlet House said: “Everyone loved taking part in nature-themed activities here at Scarlet House, and we had a lot of fun celebrating this year’s bird-themed event.

“Residents built bird boxes and enjoyed placing them in the home’s garden. It was wonderful to see their creations take pride of place, and we’re all looking forward to some of our feathered friends moving in soon. The bird games provided a lot of laughter, and everyone was fascinated by the incredible display from Walks with Hawks.

“I’d like to say thank you to Walks with Hawks for joining us and making the day so special.”
