Residents at a care home in Stroud are gearing up to take part in some avian-themed activities this January.
Inspired by the RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch, which takes place from Saturday 25th to Monday 27th January, residents will be taking part in a variety of activities related to our feathered friends, as well as topping up their bird feeders and counting the species in their garden.
Alongside Care UK homes across the country, Scarlet House, on Westward Road, will be celebrating the best of British birds by enjoying an up-close encounter with a variety of birds of prey from Walks with Hawks, as well as by creating bird boxes and special bird treats for our local birds with children from Co-op Day Nursery.
Kate Stevens, home manager at Scarlet House, explained why discovering our local wildlife is so important: “We all love getting outside, enjoying the fresh air and spending time with nature here at Scarlet House, so we’re taking part in some nature-based activities, inspired by RSPB’s Big Garden Birdwatch.
“Birdwatching is an accessible activity that those of all ages and abilities can enjoy together, and a great opportunity for the local community to join us. Intergenerational relationships benefit everyone, allowing us to learn from one another, and have fun along the way.
“We can’t wait to welcome Co-op Day Nursery and Walks with Hawks to the home – it promises to be a real hoot!”
