Residents at a care home in Stansted are gearing up to take part in some avian-themed activities this January.
Inspired by the RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch, which takes place from Saturday 25th January to Monday 27th January, residents will be taking part in a variety of activities related to our feathered friends, as well as topping up their bird feeders and counting the birds in their garden.
Alongside Care UK homes across the country, Mountfitchet House, on Coltsfield, will be celebrating the best of British birds by inviting pupils from Magna Carta Primary School to take part in birdwatching with residents.
Ellie Kemp, deputy home manager at Mountfitchet House explained why exploring our wildlife is an important activity: “Residents love taking part in nature-themed activities and learning more about the beautiful environment we live in.
“Spending time outdoors and connecting with the nature around us can prove to be beneficial for both the physical and mental wellbeing of older people – particularly those living with dementia. While it is a calming, peaceful activity, the distinctive sounds and vibrant colours of the garden are also great for providing sensory stimulation.
“It’s brilliant to be getting involved with such a meaningful initiative and encouraging everyone to take notice of the beautiful wildlife Britain has to offer. We’re looking forward to welcoming pupils from Magna Carta Primary School into the home to celebrate the best of British birds with us too!”
