Residents at a care home in Sidcup are gearing up to take part in some avian-themed activities this January.
Inspired by the RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch, which takes place from Saturday 25th to Monday 27th January, residents will be taking part in a variety of activities related to our feathered friends, as well as topping up their bird feeders and counting the species in their garden.
Alongside Care UK homes across the country, Smyth Lodge, on Frognal Avenue, will be celebrating the best of British birds by baking some birds nest treats, having a bird-themed quiz night, and building bug hotels to help the local wildlife flourish.
The care home has invited Cleeve Park School to visit the home and build a bird house with the residents, as well as welcoming a falconry expert to bring along local birds of prey.
Lorraine Eastmead, home manager at Smyth Lodge, explained why discovering our local wildlife is so important: “Everyone is really looking forward to celebrating British birds this January and learning more about our feathered friends. We’ve been researching British birds common to Sidcup and are very excited to be getting involved with so many bird-related activities.
“Residents here at Smyth Lodge have a keen interest in nature, so we thought that researching local wildlife, as well as seeing birds of prey would be the perfect way to discover what’s on our doorstep. We’d like to thank RSPB for inspiring us to get involved - we can’t wait to get started!”
Smyth Lodge has been designed to deliver the very best standards of care and to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives. The home provides full-time residential dementia and nursing care, as well as respite care.
