Bird is the word! Epsom care home residents spread their wings to celebrate the best of British bird

Residents at a care home in Epsom are gearing up to take part in some avian-themed activities this January.

Inspired by the RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch, which takes place from Saturday 25^th to Monday 27^th January, residents will be taking part in a variety of activities related to our feathered friends, as well as topping up their bird feeders and counting the species in their garden.

Alongside Care UK homes across the country, Appleby House, on Longmead Road, will be celebrating the best of British birds by visiting Bourne Hall park and taking photographs of the birds and swans. Residents will then use these photos to provide inspiration for painting and clay work in the home’s art studio.

Shona Bradbury, home manager at Appleby House, explained why discovering our local wildlife is so important: “Everyone is really looking forward to celebrating British birds this January and learning more about our feathered friends. We’ve been researching British birds common to Epsom and are very excited to be getting involved with so many bird-related activities.

“Residents here at Appleby House have a keen interest in nature, so we thought that researching local wildlife, as well as seeing local birds would be the perfect way to discover what’s on our doorstep. We’d like to thank RSPB for inspiring us to get involved - we can’t wait to get started!”
