Residents at a care home in Cheltenham are gearing up to take part in some avian-themed activities this January.
Inspired by the RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch, which takes place from Saturday 25th to Monday 27th January, residents will be taking part in a variety of activities related to our feathered friends, as well as topping up their bird feeders and counting the species in their garden.
Alongside Care UK homes across the country, Sandfields, on St George’s Road, will be celebrating the best of British birds by hosting a talk about local wildlife with Simon Watts, who has been featured on BBC’s Springwatch.
Emma Mackenzie-Bedford, home manager at Sandfields, explained why discovering our wildlife is an important activity: “Everyone is really looking forward to celebrating British birds this January and learning more about our feathered friends. We’ve been researching British birds common to Cheltenham and are very excited to be taking part in a variety of activities throughout January.
“Residents here at Sandfields have a keen interest in nature, so we thought that researching local wildlife, as well as seeing birds of prey would be the perfect way to discover what’s on our doorstep. We’d like to thank RSPB for inspiring us to get involved and to Simon for sharing his knowledge - we can’t wait to get started!”
