It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas at a care home in Hailsham, where residents received a special visit from local pupils.
Care UK’s Bowes House, on Battle Road, opened its doors to students from Hailsham Community College for an afternoon of Christmas-themed crafts.
On the day, as part of their Public Service course, youngsters and residents took part in a special workshop to create Christmas decorations, which are now displayed in the home.
Helena Barrow, home manager at Bowes House, said: “Arts and crafts and other creative projects can have many therapeutic benefits for older people, especially those living with dementia, by offering an alternative way to communicate and a chance to relive happy memories.
“Intergenerational relationships have also proven to be enriching for all ages: they can give older people a sense of purpose, and they provide an opportunity for both children and residents to learn from each other. It is fantastic to see the friendships developing already, and everyone at the home is looking forward to welcoming Hailsham Community College again soon.”
Bowes House is a state-of-the-art care home which provides full-time residential, nursing and dementia care, as well as short-term respite care. Designed to enable residents to live enjoyable and fulfilling lives, the care home has it very own cinema and hair salon, and there is plenty of space, both indoors and out, for relaxation and recreation. The home has a comprehensive activity programme, offering a mix of themed events, group activities and days out.
