Care home pledges support for South Manchester befriending service

A Sale care home is marking its arrival in the neighbourhood, by donating to a local befriending and volunteering service for adults in later life.

Care UK’s Oakfield Croft on Washway Road in Sale, has forged a bond with Cyril Flint Befrienders, ahead of the care home opening its doors in March 2020.

Daniel Cole, home manager of Oakfield Croft, said: “One in three adults in later life are affected by loneliness, so it goes without saying that this is a real problem affecting communities across the country. We are passionate about working closely with our neighbouring community, and are thrilled to be helping Cyril Flint Befrienders, as we know that the service it offers can make a huge difference to someone who has little or no contact from friends and family.

“At Care UK, our ethos is similarly built around daily fulfilment and enjoyment and we’re looking forward to welcoming residents in January as they make Oakfield Croft their new home.”

Nadia Gazeley, operations manager at Cyril Flint, said: “Cyril Flint Befrienders is a small, locally-focused charity based in Sale.  We combat loneliness and social isolation in people aged 60 and over by creating new, diverse friendships between volunteers and older people from different faiths, cultures and generations. This helps us promote community cohesion by bringing members of the community together who may not otherwise have met, but for our service.

“We operate throughout the whole of Trafford and parts of South Manchester. Our Volunteers commit to visiting someone in their own home on a regular one-to-one basis, offering companionship and often support. This donation will go towards the cost of creating these new friendships, tackling loneliness and social isolation and the associated detrimental effect they have on older people’s mental and physical health and well-being. It’s fabulous that Care UK can join us in helping more friendships develop and flourish.”

The marketing suite at Oakfield Croft opens on 11 December, providing the ideal opportunity to find out more about what life will be like at the care home.

Due to open in March 2020, the purpose-built care home, which will feature 60 ensuite bedrooms, has been designed to enable its residents to live active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence. The care home will incorporate space for hobby and leisure activities and will include its own cinema, hairdressing salon and coffee shop.

Oakfield Croft will deliver a full range of residential and nursing care for older people, including short-term respite care and specialist care for people living with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia.
