Residents at a care home in Halstead are gearing up to take part in some avian-themed activities this January.
Inspired by the RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch, which takes place from Saturday 25th January to Monday 27th January, residents will be taking part in a variety of activities related to our feathered friends, as well as topping up their bird feeders and counting the birds in their garden.
Alongside Care UK homes across the country, Colne View, on Dame Mary Walk, will be celebrating the best of British birds by inviting an owl rescue centre along to the home, allowing residents to get up close to the magnificent creatures.
The home has also invited local school children from St Andrews Primary school along to meet the owls and to make bird nest cakes with residents.
Razvan Stanbeca, home manager at Colne View explained why exploring our wildlife is an important activity: “Everyone is really looking forward to celebrating British birds this January and learning more about our feathered friends. Residents here at Colne View have a keen interest in nature, so we thought that getting closer to wildlife would be the perfect way to discover what’s on our doorstep!
“It’s brilliant to be getting involved with such a meaningful initiative and encouraging everyone to take notice of the beautiful wildlife Britain has to offer. We’re looking forward to welcoming the children from St Andrews Primary School into the home to celebrate the best of British birds with us too!”
