Edinburgh care home celebrates duo of national awards

A care home in Edinburgh is celebrating after it was recognised at a national awards ceremony.

The Residential Care Services (RCS) Stars awards recognise individual and team excellence at more than 120 care homes nationwide across Care UK’s RCS division.

Lauder Lodge, on Wakefield Avenue, walked away with the Exceptional Housekeeping award, and team member Kerry Yorkston received the Carer of the Year award, two of 20 accolades handed out during the event.

Lauder Lodge’s housekeeping team was also recognised for going above and beyond their duties. In addition to keeping the home immaculate and inviting at all times, the team takes time to speak with residents regularly, and always tries to find new ways of involving those who wish to in the home’s daily tasks.

Admired by team members and residents alike for her patience and her sense of humour, Kerry was praised by the judges for her positivity and willingness to help. However, it was her easy-going attitude and high empathy which judges felt set her apart from competitors in the category.

Nicole Anderson, home manager at Lauder Lodge, said: “The RCS award ceremony was a truly inspirational evening – it was brilliant to hear about the dedication of team members, as well as the positive impact this has had on residents, enabling them to lead fulfilling lives.

“Kerry brings a fantastic energy to the home – nothing is ever too much for her, and she’s always willing to go out of her way to help residents and colleagues alike. She has a natural ability to put herself in other people’s shoes, which makes her a joy to work with – alongside the housekeeping team, I think it’s fair to say we’ve assembled quite the dream team here at Lauder Lodge!

“I would like to thank Kerry and the housekeeping team for all their hard work in making Lauder Lodge a wonderful place to live for all residents – every single person is such a valuable part of the team and I really appreciate their commitment to the home.”

Lauder Lodge has been designed to deliver the very best standards of care and to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives. The home provides full-time residential, nursing and dementia care, as well as short-term respite care.
