A new care home has made a donation to help a local girl living with cancer.
The local community in Huntington has pulled together by doing various fund-raising events to help raise money for Abi MacLaren, a Year Six pupil at Saighton C of E Primary School, who was recently diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia.
Care UK’s Deewater Grange, on Chester Road, which opens in 2020,donated £200 to this community effort. This will be split between Abi’s Fund and Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, where Abi visits for treatment.
Donna Brown, customer relations manager at Deewater Grange, said: “When we heard Abi’s story, as caregivers ourselves, we naturally wanted to help in any way we could. This donation, which will be split between Abi’s Fund and Alder Hey Hospital, will benefit not only Abi, but other young people currently living with cancer.
“We always want to play our part in supporting our local community, and when we heard about how this wonderful community was pulling together for Abi, we wanted to do what we could.”
The marketing suite at Deewater Grange care home is now open and the home will open its doors to new residents on Monday 3rd of February next year.
Designed to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence, the new care home will incorporate space for hobby and leisure activities. The layout of the building will be configured into a series of individual suites, each having a dedicated lounge/dining room to help facilitate the creation of close-knit communities.
