A care home in Bury St Edmunds welcomed a local councillor and representatives from The Royal British Legion for a special Remembrance Day service.
Residents and team members at Care UK’s Glastonbury Court were joined by members of The Royal British Legion and Stowmarket Boys Brigade for the service, which was led by Reverend John Fulton and Steve Jackson.
Last year, West Suffolk Council donated a hand-knitted poppy wall to the home to commemorate Remembrance Day. This year, 60 new poppies have been knitted and were presented to residents at the service.
June Horner, a resident at Glastonbury Court, said: “It was a lovely to be able to pay tribute to our servicemen and women at Glastonbury Court alongside representatives from the Royal British Legion.
“The poppies are beautiful and we are so grateful to West Suffolk Council for donating them to us. I hope that they are displayed in the home for years to come.”
Sharlene Van Tonder, home manager at Glastonbury Court, said: “It was an honour to welcome Councillor Patrick Chung and representatives from The Royal British Legion to our Remembrance Day service at Glastonbury Court.
“Several residents living in the home are veterans themselves, so it was extremely special to be able to mark the occasion and to pay tribute to those who have fought, and those who continue to fight for our country.”
Glastonbury Court is a modern care home which provides full-time residential and dementia care, as well as short-term respite care. Designed to enable its residents to live enjoyable and fulfilling lives, the care homes have their very own cinema and hair salon, and there is plenty of space both in and outdoors for relaxation and recreation.
