It was plain sailing for two Windsor residents whose wishes came true.
Margaret Purvis and Annie Thelwell enjoyed a special boat trip and reminisced on their younger years. They met at Care UK’s Mountbatten Grange, on Helston Lane, and quickly became best friends, so the home decided to arrange a nautical day out for them.
Annie used to take regular boat trips along the River Thames, so Margaret made a wish through Mountbatten Grange’s ‘Wishing Tree’ to cruise down the river so Annie could show her the sights and places she used to visit.
As a result, a group of residents and Mountbatten Grange team members travelled to Runnymede for a cruise upstream through old Windsor, followed by a pub lunch. Debbie Winwood, home manager at Mountbatten Grange, said: “We love to go the extra mile for residents here at Mountbatten Grange, and our wishing tree is a fantastic way to understand what’s really important to them.
“Annie speaks fondly of the years she spent boating and exploring old Windsor, so we are thrilled we could help her to reminisce and share this experience with one of her closest friends. It was wonderful to see her light up the minute she stepped on board, and to hear so many stories and anecdotes from her younger years. It was a fantastic experience for everyone involved and I am so pleased we were able to make Annie and Margaret’s wish come true.”
The new luxury care home, which features 72 ensuite bedrooms, has been designed to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence. The care home incorporates space for hobby and leisure activities and includes its own cinema, hairdressing salon and café.
