Carer’s brave head shave is icing on the cake at World’s Biggest Coffee Morning

A care home in Stansted went the extra mile to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support. On Friday 27th September, the people of Stansted got together over coffee and cake to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support, and one member of the team went to great lengths to support the cause.

Carer’s brave head shave is icing on the cake at World’s Biggest Coffee MorningThe team at Care UK’s Mountfitchet House, on Coltsfield, got their bake on and whipped up homemade sweet treats, and the people of Stansted were invited to support a fantastic cause by joining them for a nibble and a natter with residents. As part of the event, Klare  McGinley, a member of the home’s care team, also decided to brave the shave to raise funds for the good cause.

Every year Macmillan organises the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning in kitchens, offices and village halls across the globe to fundraise for people living with cancer. Since the very first coffee morning in 1990 over £200 million has been raised for the charity, enabling it to  support individuals from diagnosis, through to treatment and beyond. Allison Squires, home manager at Mountfitchet House, said, “The event at Mountfitchet House was a huge success and the community in Stansted came out in full force to support Klare’s head shave.

“We are so proud of Klare for having her head shaved, and helping to raise even more funds for Macmillan. There are 2.5 million people living with cancer across the UK, so the important work that Macmillan does to provide support is vital. Not only did the coffee morning give us the chance to raise funds for the services it offers but it also gave us the wonderful opportunity to welcome local people, family and friends into our home.”

Klare added, “I had been thinking about shaving my head for Macmillan for a long time, and this year, I finally plucked up the courage to go through with it. The charity has changed so many people’s lives and it feels fantastic to be able to give something back.

“It was fantastic to have so many people come along to Mountfitchet House to support me, and I’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who sponsored me!”
