On Wednesday 4th September, from 11am-1pm, Pear Tree Court, on Portsmouth Road, is inviting the local community to a special screening of Seven Brides for Seven Brothers to mark the launch of its dementia-friendly cinema club.
Designed for older people and their carers to spend quality time together and relax, the dementia-friendly cinema club will take place on the first Wednesday of each month moving forward.
Popular in the 1950s and 1960s, American musicals will be among the films screened, to encourage reminiscence and help to spark conversations. Guests are also invited to discuss the film over cakes and a cuppa, and can use the opportunity to share their experiences in a supportive environment.
Helen Kalnicky, home manager at Pear Tree Court, said: “The local community is an essential part of life here at Pear Tree Court, and we are thrilled to welcome older people and local carers into the home for an afternoon packed with classic films and musicals on a monthly basis.
“We strongly believe professional knowledge, insight and shared experiences can make a real difference to the everyday lives of those looking after a loved one living with dementia, so we’re also delighted to offer local carers a place to meet and receive guidance as part of our community-first approach. We’re looking forward to welcoming local people for our first-ever dementia-friendly cinema club session.”
