How to prevent slips and trips - Harrier Lodge hosts free advice event

Harrier Lodge is inviting local people to a free event where they can learn more about preventing falls among older people.

On Wednesday 21st August, from 2pm-4pm, Harrier Lodge, on Thanet Way, is welcoming an expert to give advice to the local community at its fall prevention and awareness event.

Peter Ellis, a senior postural stability instructor, will be visiting the home to provide expert guidance on preventing falls, reducing balance problems and maintaining independence. During the event there will bea chance to learn the common causes of slips and falls and discover ways of preventing them at home or in care, as well as advice and tips on activities and exercises that improve balance and reduce the risk of falls.

This event also provides members of the local community with the opportunity to meet the friendly team at Harrier Lodge and take a closer look at the care home, with complimentary refreshments provided.

Diane Collins, home manager at Harrier Lodge, said: “To prevent health issues that occasionally occur from accidental falls, it is very important to the team and to the wellbeing of the residents that we provide essential information on fall prevention. Here at Harrier Lodge, we strive to provide in-depth advice to people in the local community on topics relating to our work, and we are able to do just that with the help of a specially selected expert who will be speaking at this session.

“It is imperative that we create a safe environment for older people in the community, and ensure that family and friends have the correct information to prevent accidents. This event has proved popular in the past, so we are looking forward to welcoming local people to Harrier Lodge for what promises to be another interesting and inspiring afternoon of advice and guidance.”
