Birthday celebrations have been in full swing at Brook Court when resident Mary Myring turned 100 years ‘young’ last month and revealed the secret to living to this impressive age is being out in the fresh air as much as possible.
Mary was born on 19th July, in Hagley. Referring to herself as a bit of tomboy, she loved climbing trees, running and walking as a child. Scrumping for apples, regular picnics and sliding down icy street pavements were just some of her fondest childhood memories.
To celebrate her milestone birthday, nature-fan Mary was treated to a trip to Bodenham Arboretum, where she was joined by family, friends and residents. The Brook Court team then hosted a special afternoon tea party, with musical entertainment at the home, including a special screening in the home’s own cinema, of a short film celebrating Mary’s fantastic 100 years.
Mary had two sons, John and Clive, with husband Howard and spent her working life as a typist and secretary. She continued to enjoy nature and the great outdoors through climbing and walking. Today she enjoys poetry and crosswords, sings in the home’s choir and of course spends lots of time in the attractive outdoor spaces and garden at the home.
Home manager at Brook Court, Gill Pratt, said: “Residents are at the heart of everything we do here at Brook Court, and we always like to throw a party for special celebrations – and Mary’s 100th birthday was no exception.
“It’s fantastic to see Mary celebrating this incredible milestone with her family and friends at Brook Court. She is a very happy, sociable person, and has built lovely friendships with residents and the team since moving here in 2014. So, it was wonderful to raise a glass to her on this special day.”
