The team at Snowdrop House was joined by local people for Care Home Open Day, a countrywide initiative set up to develop lasting relationships between care homes and local communities, and to dispel common myths about care home life.
This year’s theme celebrated the role of arts within care, which is important in encouraging residents’ self-expression, and helps to create meaningful experiences. In the lead up to the big day, Creative Minds hosted many sessions with residents to create props for the home.
Residents and visitors enjoyed an Alice in Wonderland art-themed day of family fun, complete with a Mad Hatter’s tea party.
The team decorated the home and garden with giant flowers and characters from the popular film, and team members were spectacularly dressed for the occasion. The many visitors and residents were delighted with a performance in the garden by classical singer, Olivia from Musical Memories.
Residents and the visitors tried their luck in fun competitions, which included, guess the weight of a cake, name the rabbit, a raffle, and a tombola.
As part of a nationwide competition for all Care UK homes, Snowdrop House developed a work of art in the lead up to the open day, which was unveiled at the event.
Clare Crow, home manager at Snowdrop House, said: “We had a fantastic time celebrating Care Home Open Day at Snowdrop House. The residents really enjoyed our spectacular tea party and it was brilliant to see so many of our friends getting into the spirit of the day.
“Care Home Open Day is all about welcoming the local community to see what life in a care home is really like. We would like to say a big thank you to the people of Ware, Olivia and Creative Minds for celebrating with us.”
