The team at Harrier Lodge welcomed local people to enjoy Care Home Open Day, a countrywide initiative set up to develop lasting relationships between care homes and local communities, and to dispel common myths about care home life.
This year’s theme celebrated the role of arts within care, which is important in encouraging residents’ self-expression, and helps to create meaningful experiences.
Residents and visitors enjoyed an art-themed party with pupils from Joy Lane Primary School where they and residents created memorial tiles, clay flower sculptures and enjoyed movement to music with the Butterfly Arts company.
As part of a nationwide competition for all Care UK homes, Harrier Lodge developed a work of art in the lead up to the open day, which was unveiled at the event.
Diane Collins, home manager at Harrier Lodge, said: “Everyone at Harrier Lodge had an amazing time celebrating with the local community for Care Home Open Day 2019. This year’s theme of ‘Celebrating Arts in Care’ was a wonderful opportunity for us to showcase all the brilliant activities we get up to on a daily basis here at Harrier Lodge.
“The people of Whitstable have been very welcoming to us since we opened earlier this year, and it was great to host everyone for a day of fun in the sun.”
