Celebrations as new dementia suite launches at Chandler Court

Chandler Court has launched a new suite with the help of residents.

The team held a ceremonial ribbon cutting to officially open its new dementia suite. 

The suite, named Sanders, will provide specialist nursing dementia care for people in Bromsgrove and the surrounding area, and offers a dementia-friendly environment, including reminiscence areas to encourage residents living with dementia to bring back happy memories.  

It also features a Tovertafel, an interactive ‘magic table’, which stimulates the mind and encourages interaction across the generations. The interactive games, which are all about enjoyment and wonder, stimulate both physical 

and cognitive activity and encouraging social interaction, as well as creating treasured moments with family members and carers. 

Jo Gill, home manager at Chandler Court, said: “The official opening of our dementia suite is an important milestone for all of us, as it means we can now offer dementia care to the community of Bromsgrove and surrounding area”. 

“We have built a warm, welcoming community here at Chandler Court, with everything in place so we can provide the highest standards of personalised care. We now look forward to welcoming residents to their impressive new home over the coming months.”

The opening of the new dementia suite comes ahead of a Dementia Friends event taking place between 2pm and 3:30pm on Wednesday 31 July 2019, whereby members of the local community are warmly invited to Chandler Court for an information session, in a bid to create a more dementia-friendly community in Bromsgrove.

Talking about the upcoming session, Jo added: “At Chandler Court, we have a commitment to encouraging others to learn about dementia, as well as helping the community by making them more aware of those living with dementia.”
