The home has made it to the final stage in the ‘Excellent Person Centred Care At End Of Life’ category in the awards, which recognise those delivering quality care services in Suffolk.
The regional awards reward excellence and aim to shine a light on the work that individuals and care providers undertake.
The care team at Cedrus House have been recognised for the high quality of their end of life care, and were recently awarded an accreditation by St Elizabeth Hospice following a supported self-improvement programme of professional, educational and development training.
Detailed end of life plans are put together with each person and their loved ones, allowing them to make their own decisions about their end of life care. The home has also created a family room for relatives to use, and continues to offer an open door even after loved ones have passed to support them through the grieving process.
Cedrus House’s commitment to high quality end of life care doesn’t only support residents and relatives. A buddy system has been put in place by the home to guide the younger, less experienced members of the team when dealing with the death of a resi
dent.
Michelle Webster, home manager at Cedrus House, commented: “We are delighted to have been shortlisted in the ‘Excellent Person Centred Care At End Of Life’ category for this year’s Suffolk Care Awards.
“When someone is approaching the end of their life, they often want to spend their final days in the place they call home. If that is our care home, then we want to ensure we are doing everything in our power to ensure residents, and their families have peace of mind that the best possible care will be provided.
“We’d like to wish good luck to everyone who has made the finals, we’re looking forward to the awards ceremony in October and have our fingers crossed.”
