Bowes House celebrates arty open day

There were celebrations all round when the team at Bowes House welcomed the local community in for a day of art-themed fun and games.

The team at Bowes House were joined by local people for Care Home Open Day, a countrywide initiative set up to develop lasting relationships between care homes and local communities, and to dispel common myths about care home life.

This year’s theme celebrated the role of arts within care, which is important in encouraging residents’ self-expression, and helps to create meaningful experiences.

On the day, residents and visitors were treated to a delicious cream tea, specially prepared by Bowes House’s chef, and took part in a fun soap-making workshop. Everyone also enjoyed an art exhibition showcasing residents’ paintings.

As part of a nationwide competition for all Care UK homes, Bowes House also developed a work of art in the lead up to the open day, which was unveiled at the event.

Helena Barrow, home manager at Bowes House, said: “We had a fantastic time celebrating Care Home Open Day at Bowes House. The residents really enjoyed showcasing their artistic skills, and it was brilliant to see so many of our neighbours come along for the party.

“Care Home Open Day is all about building bridges with our local community, and showing what life in a care home is really like. We would like to say a big thank you to the people of Hailsham for celebrating with us.”
